Description	:	Murdock “Doc” Maurice Ratten of Hickory Tavern, SC, husband of Margaret Ratten, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Born at home in Searsmont, ME on July 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Ernest Walter Ratten and Thelma Bell Cunningham Ratten. Murdock graduated from Searsmont Grammar School, Appleton High School, and the University of Southern Maine. He was a twelve year member of the National Guard. Read More	Murdock “Doc” Maurice Ratten of Hickory Tavern, SC, husband of Margaret Ratten, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Born at home in Searsmont, ME on July 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Ernest Walter Ratten and Thelma Bell Cunningham Ratten. Murdock graduated from Searsmont Grammar School, Appleton High School, and the University of Southern Maine. He was a twelve year member of the National Guard. He worked many years managing various tool rooms in the North before moving south and working with Michelin Tire Co. (MARC) for 19 years before his retirement. He was also partner in Doc’s Plants in Hickory Tavern for many years. He loved gardening, hunting, bee keeping, traveling, and woodworking. Murdock was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where he was an extra-ordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He died doing what he loved, gardening. He leaves behind his childhood sweetheart, Margaret June Ratten, whom he married September 8, 2006. Also surviving are his children, Russell Allen Ratten, Julia Ann Childs, and Michaelle Lynn Ratten-Lewis and husband, Bryan, all of Simpsonville, SC, Laurie Ellen Revak and husband, Larry, of Kittery, ME, and Cynthia Elizabeth Hammett of Swannanoa, NC; nine grandchildren; numerous great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Muriel Julia Alban and husband, Arthur, of Searsmont, ME and Winter Haven, FL, and Emily Christie Flagg and husband, Orin, of Belfast, ME. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann Grosser Ratten; son Michael Ratten; daughter, Rebecca Jane Ratten, and grandson, Caleb Revak.
