Description	:	Muriel E. Thorson, 79, of Leavenworth and a long time resident of the Upper Wenatchee Valley, died Tuesday morning, May 17, 2005, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center. She was born Muriel Evans on June 5, 1925, to Jim and Ruth (Muller) Evans at Peshastin. She spent most of her childhood years on the family orchard on the North Road. Thorson, 79, of Leavenworth and a long time resident of the Upper Wenatchee Valley, died Tuesday morning, May 17, 2005, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center. She was born Muriel Evans on June 5, 1925, to Jim and Ruth (Muller) Evans at Peshastin. She spent most of her childhood years on the family orchard on the North Road. In 1943, she graduated from Peshastin High School. She attended St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Wenatchee, receiving her R.N. degree in 1946. Muriel then moved to Seattle, where she worked in a doctor's office. On August 26, 1947, she married Kenneth R. Thorson in Peshastin and they made their first home in Seattle. Muriel continued to work until shortly before their first son was born and over the next thirteen years she was a homemaker, living in Seattle and Bellevue raising their four children. Her husband, Kenneth died in 1960. Muriel re-entered the nursing profession full time in 1968. In 1970, when her sons were in college, Muriel and the two girls moved to Leavenworth and she began working at the Cascade General Hospital until 1987. She then worked as a baker for the Enzian Inn for eight years. She was a devoted mother to her four children. She was known for her hospitality, inviting folks for meals or taking meals or baked goods to them. She also provided a place for people in need to stay. Her hobbies besides baking included needlework, quilting, walking and reading. For years, Muriel made baby quilts for every child born in her church. Muriel was a diligent student of the Bible. Besides hospitality she served in the church as Sunday School teacher, custodian, visitor of shut-ins and bringer of laughter. Muriel had a sly sense of humor that would sneak up on you when you least expected it. Right now she is very glad to be Home with the Lord, to whom she had committed her life and each of her days with their joys and challenges. Muriel is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Jenny Thorson of Port Townsend, Jeffrey Thorson and Marilee Henry of Bothell; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and Rob Johnson and Carol Thorson all of Leavenworth; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion and Pete Mayberg of Port Angeles, Sally and Jim Doherty of Leavenworth; grandchildren, Kim, Robin, Julie and Skye Johnson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1960; a brother, Jim Evans; and sister, Ruth Morehead. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Muriel E. Thorson, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2005, in the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jon Vandel, officiating. The casket will remain closed, those wishing to make visitation may call at the Ward's Funeral Chapel, Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Private burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene, 111 Ski Hill Dr., Leavenworth, WA. 98826. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, assisting with the arrangements.
