Klohs, 79, of Penn Valley, Calif., and formerly of LeMars, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, Calif. Murle William Klohs was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of William H. and Lowell (Lewis) Klohs. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Murle received his early education in South Dakota and as a teenager moved to LeMars and graduated from LeMars Central High School in 1938. Following high school Murle attended Westmar College in LeMars and later transferred and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1944. He furthered his education at Harvard University doing post-graduate studies. He served his country during World War II in the US Navy as landing craft infantry commanding officer with the USS LCI(L)-63. Murle was united in marriage to Dolores Borm on June 16, 1946, at Remsen. Following his discharge from the Navy, Murle and Dolores made their home in California. Murle began working for Rexall Labs as a pharmaceutical chemist doing research work on prescription drugs. He continued in this profession until his retirement from the 3-M Corporation in the mid-1980s. Murle had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the world doing pharmaceutical research. After his retirement Murle and Dolores enjoyed traveling abroad. Survivors include his wife, Dolores of Penn Valley, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy Soares and her husband Al of Antioch, Calif., and Linda Setnik and her husband Bob of Folsom, Calif.; two granddaughters, Angie Soars of Sacramento, Calif, and Jennie Cunningham of San Diego, Calif.; and a brother and sister-in-law, M. D. Whitey and Joanne Klohs of LeMars. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural LeMars, with military graveside honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home, with the family present to greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Al Soares, Bob Setnik, Bill Klohs, Kirk Klohs, and Ned Meis.
