Mount Pleasant News In the early morning of January 16th., the residents of Mount Pleasant were greatly shocked because of the death of Murray Corkum, who lost his life by drowning in Huey's Lake. This lad had been employed at a home in West Dublin and in the morning left there to go over to New Cumberland to spend the day with his father. When he reached the lake there, it is thought in order to shorten the distance and not knowing the weakness of the ice, he cut across the lake and within a short distance of the place where he was aiming for shore the ice parted and he sank beneath. Hearing his pitiful cries for help alarm was made, but until help arrived and the body recovered, life was extinct. He was the youngest son of Elias Corkum, New Cumberland. Only seventeen years of age, he was a youth who was honest and who toiled hard for his living, and was liked by all. The many young folks who came from West Dublin to attend the funeral bore evidence of their esteem towards him. Besides his father, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Porter Conrad, of Cherryhill; brothers, Lester and Canis of Bridgewater; Eli of Worcester, Mass.; and Foster of this place. They all have our deepest sympathy. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the United Church here, conducted by Rev. Hird, who based his thoughts upon the words," Cast thy burden upon the Lord; He will sustain thee." Rev. D. W. McDonald, LaHave, offered prayers.
