Description	:	Murray Jenness, 84, died June 3, 2011, at Dover Rehab after a period of failing health. He was born in Dover on March 16, 1927, the son of the late Myron I. and Ruth (Libby) Jenness. Murray was brought up on the family farm on Pickering Road, where his ancestor, Mark Jenness, had settled in 1730. Read More	Murray Jenness, 84, died June 3, 2011, at Dover Rehab after a period of failing health. He was born in Dover on March 16, 1927, the son of the late Myron I. and Ruth (Libby) Jenness. Murray was brought up on the family farm on Pickering Road, where his ancestor, Mark Jenness, had settled in 1730. He went to the Rochester schools and then to the University of Minnesota, where he received a degree in animal husbandry and economics. He met his future wife, Catherine J. (Benjamin) Jenness, while attending the university, and they recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. He taught World War II veterans in the On The Farm Training Program. He then moved back to Rochester to work with his father, Myron Jenness, in the Jenness & Jenness Insurance Agency. In 1961 when his father died, Murray and his wife, Catherine, continued to operate the Jenness & Jenness Insurance Agency until 1992, when he retired and his son, George Jenness and wife, Elizabeth Minko Jenness, took over operating the agency. In 1962, Murray was appointed to be on the board of directors of Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance of New Hampshire, the company Myron Jenness had helped to incorporate in 1928. He served for 47 years. He was also affiliated with several other organizations, including Cocheco 4-H Club president, 4-H leader, president of NH 4-H camps, master of Cocheco Grange 81, Sunday School teacher, lay leader and trustee at First United Methodist Church of Rochester, president of Rochester Kiwanis Club, member of the board of directors of the Concord General Mutual Insurance Company, president of Strafford County Farm Bureau, president of the board of trustees of the New Hampshire Conference of the United Methodist Church, president of the board of trustees of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church. Murray was brought up in the Friends Meeting in Gonic, then in 1953, joined the First United Methodist Church in Rochester. His wife had been brought up in the Methodist Church and felt it was important for the family to worship together. He participated in many of the programs there and enjoyed it very much. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Jenness, and two sisters, Lucille Harkinson and Carolyn Magoon. His survivors include his wife, Catherine; four children, Patricia J. Thompson and husband, James, of Shippensburg, Pa., Linda J. Cormier and husband, John, of Slatersville, R.I., Steven M. Jenness and wife, Donna, of Redmond, Wash., and George B. Jenness and wife, Elizabeth, of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Joan Yamaguchi and husband, Tony, of Shippensburg, Pa., Catherine Cormier of Phoenix, Ariz., Benjamin Thompson of the U.S. Army, presently serving in Afghanistan, Alex Jenness and wife, Jessica, of Bothel, Wash., Jillian Wheeler and husband, Paul, of Bend, Ore., Michael Jenness of Rochester, Andrea Davidson and husband, Ryan, of Sammamish, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren, Mikoto, Christian Murray, Jasmine, Mihoshoty and Crysty Yamaguchi, all of Shippensburg, Pa., Rogan and Ainsley Davidson of Sammamish, Wash., and Cabot Wheeler of Bend, Ore., and one brother, Arthur Jenness of Rochester.
