Read More	HOLMES, MURRAY LAVERT—Murray Lavert Holmes was born to Joseph Josiah Holmes and Tessie Home (Fortenberry) Holmes, on February 19, 1919, at Columbia, Miss., and passed away July 7, 2008, at Coupeville, Wash., at the age of 89 years. Murray grew up in Columbia, Miss. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Force, and served as a surgical medic in the Pacific. He met Hazel Linde while he was stationed at the Fairmont Air Base in Fairmont. Murray was united in marriage to Hazel in 1947. They lived in Columbia, Miss., but later relocated to Geneva. Murray started out working in construction, but eventually entered law enforcement, and served as a police officer for the town of Geneva. He then became a deputy for the Fillmore County Sheriff’s office and was later elected to the position of Sheriff. He completed his career by serving as Chief of Police of Geneva. In 1998, he moved to Coupeville, Wash., to be near family. Murray was a member of the Geneva Gun Club, the National Rifle Association and the Evangelical Free Church of Geneva. He was an avid hunter and gun collector. Murray is survived by daughters, Mary Bryson and husband Bruce; Myrtis Wilmoth and husband, Kenneth; son, David Linde and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Nicole Olts and husband Matthew, Allegra Clarkson; Nathan Mullins and wife Karen; Zachary Mullins and wife Debra; Logan Mullins; and Stephanie Witt; great-grandchildren, Sadira Olts and Jason, Connor and Kinsley Mullins; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Gene Linde; nephews, Stan and Janson; nieces, Gayle and Amber, sister-in-law, Evelyn Hanes. He was preceded in death by wife Hazel, in 1995, his parents and ten siblings. Graveside services were conducted from the Geneva Public Cemetery in Geneva, on July 14, 2008, with Pastor Chris Lake officiating. The Geneva American Legion, Post No. 68 and the Geneva VFW Post No. 7102, provided military honors. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal July 23, 2008 page 9.
