She frequently rode her horse to school through the 10th grade. She completed high school at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. She married Elmer Wallace Stone on August 22, 1935. He died 5 years later. With the help of family, she was able to provide for her children, Ardean and Mary Lois doing domestic chores.
