Myron and Marilyn (Miller) were married on July 19, 1956, celebrating 59 years of marriage last summer. Read More	Myron Ernest Oehlerking, 82, Murdock, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in Lincoln. He was born July 20, 1933 to Alvin and Lily Oehlerking in Wabash, Nebraska. Myron and Marilyn (Miller) were married on July 19, 1956, celebrating 59 years of marriage last summer. Myron and Marilyn grew up near each other graduating from Murdock High School, then Westmar College in Iowa. During this time Myron served 2 years in the Army. Myron started his teaching and coaching career in Adams, Nebraska. He taught history, mathematics, civics, and drivers ed. He coached volleyball, football, basketball, and baseball. He was also the senior class sponsor. Myron and Marilyn moved to Lincoln in 1963 where he started teaching mathematics and physical education at Lefler Junior High. He completed his Masters degree in 1965. He was a member of the staff who opened Lincoln East High in 1968. He taught mathematics and industrial arts for a few years before teaching P.E. the rest of his career. Over the next 37 years, he coached the varsity volleyball teams to 793 wins, 22 state tournament appearances, six Class A state titles, and three runner-up finishes. Myron retired in 2008 as the all-time winningest coach in Nebraska high school history, but continued to volunteer coach several more years. For 16 years he was the director of Sports Courts and Nebraska One club volleyball. Myron coached girls track and field for 23 years at East High, coaching multiple individual and relay state champions. In addition, he served as the 9th grade boys basketball coach. Myron was a selfless leader who leaves behind a legacy of positively impacting family, friends, players, colleagues, and others. Coach "O" had a special way of "coaching" all those around him. He always believed the best in others and approached every situation knowing there was a positive solution, it was just a matter of finding it. Coach "O" had a way of inspiring you to become the very best version of you that was possible. Some of Myron's many awards include being inducted into the East High Hall of Fame and the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame. He was chosen Journal-Star girls prep coach of the year and earned the Ralph Beechner coach of the year award. Myron was recognized twice as the coach of the year by the National Coaches Association. He was presented with the Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award. In addition, Myron was awarded the Scottish Rite Distinguished Teacher Award. He coached the national volleyball team and two Nebraska All-Star Volleyball teams. Myron learned to swim at the age of 33. He then became a swim instructor and the supervisor at Meadow Lane Pool. He was the director of the summer school Red Cross swim program at East High for 15 years. Myron was also a stand out pitcher in men's fast pitch AA and AAA softball. Myron was a charter member of South Gate United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was the Youth Director for fifty years. During this time Myron and Marilyn led multiple mission trips to McCurdy School in New Mexico and Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. Myron is survived by: his wife Marilyn; daughters, Barb and Dennis Nelson, Myrna and Dan Bornemeier; grandchildren, Kristin (Nelson) and Joe McNerny, Clint Bornemeier and Tanner Bornemeier; additional family members, Gary and Melanie Nunnally and their children Josh, Elizabeth, and Isaiah Nunnally; brother; two sisters; nieces and nephews. Myron was preceded in death by: his parents; infant daughter, Annette Sue; and infant grandson, Ryan Daniel Nelson. Funeral Service on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Burial in Callahan Cemetery, Murdock, Nebraska. Obituary information from Roper and Sons Funeral Home.
