Description	:	Myrtle Anderson Woodward, 98, Ellendale, N.D., was born June 3, 1909, in Brown County, S.D. She was the daughter of Oscar and Clara (Lanus) Anderson. She attended country elementary schools and in 1926 graduated from Ellendale High School where she played center on the Ellendale High School girls basketball team. She attended country elementary schools and in 1926 graduated from Ellendale High School where she played center on the Ellendale High School girls basketball team. In 1928 she earned a teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College and taught for three years in rural elementary schools. On June 10, 1930, Myrt married Lail (Bud) Woodward in Aberdeen. They resided on farms in the Forbes and Ellendale areas until 1936 when they moved to Portland, OR. While in Portland, during WWII Bud and Myrt worked in the shipyards. In 1945 they returned to a farm they purchased south of Ellendale. In 1952 they moved to Ellendale after Bud was injured in a farm accident. They operated Bud and Myrt's Corner Grocery until 1956. Myrt was a school secretary at the Ellendale Public Schools for 18 years. Bud died in 1989. Myrt entered Prince of Peace Care Center in September 2005 where she resided until her death March 11, 2008. Myrt was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed many family gatherings at her home and the cottage on Pheasant Lake. All those acquainted with Myrt knew that she loved to play cards and fun games with family and friends. Her zest for competition and fellowship spread joy to all who knew and loved her. Grateful to have shared in her life are one son, Ernest (Marilyn) Woodward, Clarksville, Tenn.; one daughter, Joanne (Donald) Anderson, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Justine Anderson, Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Myrt was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister. The funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Tyson Labuhn officiating. Organist: Marilyn Burow; soloist: Della Pomplun; Casket Bearers: Craig Anderson, Kirk Anderson, Kent Anderson, Carter Anderson, Karla Labernik, Steve Labernik, Marci Wozniak, Lori Hilber and Kristi Totherow.
