She grew up in Pittsburg, where she was graduated from Pittsburg High School. She retired from the U.S. Census Bureau in 1975. She was a legal secretary and a homemaker. Clugston, 80, rural Cherokee, died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo., after a short illness. She was born June 27, 1916, at Radley. She grew up in Pittsburg, where she was graduated from Pittsburg High School. She retired from the U.S. Census Bureau in 1975. She was a legal secretary and a homemaker. She had been a correspondent for the Girard Press. She also edited the Cherokee News Letter. She was a member of Cherokee United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member and past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Geneological Society and a board member of the Cherokee City Library. She married Gerald W. Clugston on March 31, 1940, in Girard. He died March 3, 1986. Survivors include a son, Phil Clugston, rural Cherokee; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cherokee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Barbara Gotschall will officiate. Burial will be in Cherokee Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Contributions may be made to Cherokee United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
