She was a life-time resident of Wapello county. The daughter of William F. and Sarah Hopkins, she was born August 4, 1885, in Agency. She was married to Charles W. Courtney, who died in 1918. The daughter of William F. and Sarah Hopkins, she was born August 4, 1885, in Agency. She was married to Charles W. Courtney, who died in 1918. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ronald McCombs of Ottumwa route 1 and Mrs. George Bartholow of Fairfield; three sons, Clarence Courtney of Fairfield and O.F. and C.E. Courtney, both of Ottumwa, and one brother, William H. Hopkins of Ottumwa. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. George Krafka, August 24, 1956, and by two other daughters in infancy. The body is at the Jay funeral home where arrangements are incomplete. “Courtney Rites,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” October 5, 1956: Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Courtney, 71, who died Thursday morning at Ottumwa hospital, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Agency Methodist church. The Rev. Chester Waterman, pastor, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Agency cemetery. The body will remain at the Jay funeral home until time of services. Pallbearers will be William Courtney, Robert Courtney, Charles Hurtel, Charles Jungman, Jack Davis and Clair Burkhiser.
