Description	:	Myrtle Westphal, 81, of State Center, died early Monday, May 19 at the State Center Manor. Funeral services were held Thursday at St John Lutheran Church north of State Center. Burial followed in St John Cemetery. She was born July 19, 1915 to August and Minnie Eggers Gerke at her family's home near State Center. She received her education in the area of her birth. Read More	Myrtle Westphal, 81, of State Center, died early Monday, May 19 at the State Center Manor. Funeral services were held Thursday at St John Lutheran Church north of State Center. Burial followed in St John Cemetery. She was born July 19, 1915 to August and Minnie Eggers Gerke at her family's home near State Center. She received her education in the area of her birth. She was married to Ferdinand Westphal on August 29, 1934 in State Center. They farmed in the State Center area until his death on July 7, 1977. In 1978, Myrtle moved into State Center, where she has resided since. She was employed at State Center Locker and helped with the family farm. She was a member of the St John Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid of the Church. She is survived by one son, Larry Westphal of State Center, two daughters, Ardis (Mrs Marvin) Branstine of Liberal, KS and Eileen (Mrs Doyal) Schossow of State Center; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Gerke of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Alvin Gerke and Jack Erhart, four sisters, Idella Davis, Norma Anselme, Laura Wilkening and Gladys Nason, one grandson and one great grandson.
