But few were aware of her serious illness, which made the shock even more severe. Myrtle Namanny, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Namanny, was born July 29, 1901 at Walnut, Iowa. Here she lived throughout all her life. On February 3, 1921 at Atlantic, Iowa, she was married to Edward James McDermott. To this union three children, two daughters and one son, were born. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Walnut where she resided at the time of her death. Mrs. McDermott was a woman of many sterling qualities. She was an ideal mother and helpmate. She was at all times genuinely interested in the welfare of her family and contributed much to the happiness and contentment of her family and friends. In many respects she will be greatly missed in days to come. During the past ten years the departed has been in comparatively poor health. During this time she was forced to undergo five major surgical operations which in the course of time made large inroads upon her health. About two weeks ago she went to the Atlantic hospital and underwent an operation with the hope that her health might be restored. Yet God's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways and so on Friday morning at about 8:00 o'clock she was called to rest, having reached the age of 31 years and 21 days. She leaves to mourn her departure, her sorrowing husband; her three children, Maxine Katherine, Ruth Naomi and Leroy Edward; her grief stricken parents; her three brothers, Clarence, Earl and Frederick, and a host of more distant relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the home of her parents and from the Evangelical Lutheran church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Walter F. Kieker officiating. Interment was made in the Walnut cemetery. (Walnut Bureau, Thursday, Aug. 25, 1932, p. 1)
