Chapman, 70, a longtime resident of Morton who was involved in many community activities, died Thursday in a Tacoma hospital. She was a lifetime member of the Morton Methodist Church and for the past 35 years had been secretary of the church. Chapman, 70, a longtime resident of Morton who was involved in many community activities, died Thursday in a Tacoma hospital. Mrs. Chapman was born April 20, 1897, in Everett and came to Morton at and early age. She was a lifetime member of the Morton Methodist Church and for the past 35 years had been secretary of the church. She was also a member and past worthy matron of the Morton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. For the past 31 years, Mrs. Chapman was active in the Morton Assembly of The Order of Rainbow for girls, having been the official grandmother for the group the past five years. She also was a member of the Lewis County Historical Society. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Smith, Morton; two sons, Frederick R., Morton, and Quinton L., White Salmon; a sister, Mrs Leona Seydell, Tacoma; a brother Clarence Starkey, Hood River, Ore.; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Morton Methodist Church, with the Rev. Samuel A. Carlson officiating. Burial will follow at the Morton Cemetery. Pallbearers include Marcel Fairhart, Michael Fairhart, William C. Winslow, E. W. Winsberg, A. E. Shier and Floyd Sickler.
