She was born August 21, 1916 in Cottageville, a daughter of the late William Fredrick and Ida Isabelle (Redman) Ohse. She was employed by the Jackson County Board of Education and retired from Cottageville Elementary School. She spent most of her working career as a cook at the Mt. Alto Elementary School. ALTO - Myrtle Viola Canter, 93, of Mt. Alto, passed away June 25, 2010, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. She was born August 21, 1916 in Cottageville, a daughter of the late William Fredrick and Ida Isabelle (Redman) Ohse. She was employed by the Jackson County Board of Education and retired from Cottageville Elementary School. She spent most of her working career as a cook at the Mt. Alto Elementary School. She was an Avon Representative for 45 years, a member of the Hopewill Baptist Church, Mt. Alto, and she was an avid reader. Her husband, Ashford Lonnie Canter; brothers Jim, Taft, and Luther Ohse; sister Susie Workman, also preceded her in death. Myrtle was a devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ida Sue and David Brubaker of Ripley; son and daughter-in-law William "Bill" and Jill Canter of Ripley; grandchildren Brent Brubaker (Lynsie Houchen), Brandon Brubaker (Justeen), Ashton Canter, Adam Canter (Samantha), Melanie Pierson, Samatha Bostic, Lea Ann Stover and several great grandchildren. Service was 1 p.m., Monday, June 28, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with Pastor Andrew Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville. Friends visited from 4 until 7 p.m., Sunday, June 27, at the funeral home. Ripley Jackson Herald June 29, 2010.
