Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late Paul P. McKown and the daughter of the late Hal Junius Sparks and Carrie Alasemenia Kirby Sparks. She was former co-owner of McKown Cabinet Shop, retired from Brown Packing and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Surviving is a sister, Betty Estes of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Krissy McKown Meltzer and husband, Michael of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Kimberley McKown Webb and husband, Joseph of Acworth, Ga. and Jennifer McKown Webb and husband, Jason of Canton, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Taylor, Brooklyn, Emerson, Stephen, Jenna and Joey; and a great great-granddaughter, Kinsley. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul "P. T." Thomas McKown; five brothers, Broadus Sparks, Thomas Sparks, Nathan Sparks, Joe Mac Sparks Sr. and Jack Sparks; and four sisters, Lunette Fowler, Ernestine Campbell, Janet Batchelor and Lorene Weeks. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2016 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the Church with Reverend Tommy Wright, Reverend Eddie Willis and Reverend Joe Mac Sparks officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 412 McKown’s Mountain Road, Gaffney, S.C., 29340. The family will be at the residence.
