Read More	SOURCE: 16 December 1948 - The Clarence Sun Once again Clarence lost its oldest resident--Mrs. Nancy Ann Harness, who passed away at Mercy hospital on last Friday. She had gone to the home of her grandson, Howard McKnight, for a visit and her condition became such that she was taken to the hospital that she might have the best of care. Nancy Ann Boultinghouse was born at Bloomington, Ill., on December 22, 1855, and passed away at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on December 10, 1948, at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 18 days. She was married to George W. Harness on January 1, 1876, at Hamlet, Ill., and they observed their 70th wedding anniversary on January 1, 1946. To this union were born ten children: Mrs. Nora McCord, Malvern, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Ray, Worthington, Minn., Mrs. Martha Crist, Eldon, Iowa, Mrs. Belle Lyle, Deceased, John Harness, Mechanicsville, Iowa, Mrs. Sarah Hulsebus, Worthington, Minn., George and William, Clarence, Mrs. Diane Wright, Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Elsie Kinsey, Deceased. There are 33 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Harness with her husband and family moved from Illinois to Shelby County, Iowa, in 1883, living there until March, 1920, with the exception of a short time in California. They came to Clarence in 1920 and have resided there since. George W. Harness passed away May 30, 1946. Mrs. Harness will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a kind and loving mother always interested in the welfare of her family. The funeral was held at the Methodist church of which she was a member, on Monday afternoon with sermon by the pastor, Reverend A. D. Holtry. the music was by Mrs. John Paul and Mrs. A. D. Holtry with Mrs. Marvin Schilling accompaning. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Anna Kemmann and Mrs. Eleanor Sawyer. Pallbearers were grandsons, Ronald Harness, Paul Ray, Robert Crist, Charles Harness, Harold McKinght and Vern McCord. Interment was in the Clarence cemetery. Nancy place of birth should be Bloomington, Monroe, Indiana. Every census 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940, has her place of birth as Indiana. None have Illinois. Her parents were both born in Monroe County, Indiana and married their in 1842. The family moved from Monroe County, Indiana to Illinois between the 1850 census and the 1860 census.
