She was married to Arlo J Marchant of Illinois Jan 24 1870. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom have preceded the mother in death. She was married to Arlo J Marchant of Illinois Jan 24 1870. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom have preceded the mother in death. There are left to mourn her loss, husband, one son, W M and one daughter Viola, all of this place, besides 4 sisters, Mrs T (J) R Shorter, and Mrs Sarah Neabit (Nesbit0 of Shell Rock, Mrs Libby Dilts of Council Bluffs and Mrs Tina Scanlon of St Cloud MN, one brother, Benjamin Hayes of Council Bluffs and a host of other relatives and friends from various places. The deceased lady was one of those dear good wives, mothers and neighbors whose quiet and uneventful lives are a record of patient unselfishness and self denial and who are rarely appreciated until their place is left vacant at the fireside. She was a loyal member and worker, so far as her strength would permit, of the Woman's Relief Corps and a warm and devoted friend of the veterans, her husband being one of a family of twelve sons who, with the father all served as soldiers in the war of the rebellion. Mrs Dilts of Council Bluffs, Mr and Mrs Nesbit, J R Shorter and Mrs Dewey of Shell Rock were here to attend the funeral which was conducted by Rev McKinley of the Congregational church, interment being in the cemetery here.
