The 1885 Westphalia, Anderson County, Kansas State census lists their children as Sherman, age 3, and Edith, age 1. James is listed as age 40 and Nancy A., 25. This state census report also records the Civil War service of James M. Aldridge in the 9th Kansas Cavalry. GAR records from the Central City post in Anderson County, Kansas also record his military service. James was appointed the Post Master at Central City, Anderson County, Kansas in 1876. He was enrolled in the Civil War Veteran's rolls in 1889 at Mont Ida, Anderson County, Kansas. Nancy A. Aldridge received a Civil War widow's pension in 1921, which was filed in Missouri. The 1900 Forbes, Holt County, Missouri census lists their children as Edith, age 16, born in Kansas; Roy C., 13 KS; Homer, 10 KS; Sumner, 6; John H., 3; & Frank, 9 months. This family was listed on the 1910 Skidmore Ward 2, Nodaway County, Missouri census with Homer, 20, born in Kansas; Sumner, 16, born in Missouri; John, 13 MO; & Frank, 10 MO. Nancy's birth and death dates are recorded in a Missouri death certificate. Her place of death is also listed, with her burial in the Skidmore Cemetery. She is listed as the widow of James Monroe Aldridge. Her son, Homer Aldridge, was the informant. ---------------------------Nancy's father is listed as "unknown" McKean, born "unknown." Aldridge was a son of James Aldridge, born about 1807 in North Carolina, and Nancy J. Aldridge, # 49792414. After the death of Nancy J., James Aldridge (the father) remarried to Mrs. Mary Ann Walker in 1878 and moved to Thurston County, Washington Territory by 1880. McKean, in Crawford County, Missouri, in 1930. NOTE: It is possible that the grave of James & Nancy's son, Sherman, has been entered as memorial # 38992251.
