A. Ellis of Ft. Collins, Colorado: Nancy Clark was born in Steuben County, New York Aug. 6, 1830. Moved with her parents to Potter County, PA where on January 25th, 1849, she was united in marriage to Crosby Warner. In the spring of 1861 the family moved to Spirit Lake and settled on a homestead on the east shore of East Okoboji Lake, now occupied by F. M. Pratt. No one but those who passed through the hardships of those pioneer days can know the cheerful patient suffering they endured. The writer of these lines was but a lad then but well does he remember the old log house where "Aunt Nan" as we used to call her, lived and toiled for years until they were able to build a frame house from timber grown on their own land and hauled to the old Gilbert and Morton Steam Saw mill on the adjoining farm. We shall never forget our visits to the dear old home, how kind she always was and how we used to enjoy the good victuals she never seemed to be without. She, like our own dear mother, who passed on before her, five years ago, was always kind to others, counting it "all joy" to sacrifice and toil for the comfort of others, especially her own children. Blessed with a strong body she toiled year after year for the good of her dear ones. Her humble home was always a model of cleanliness and comfort though it was not equipped with costly furnishings. She was honest upright and honorable to the utmost degree. If she ever wronged anyone it was not intentional. She was a true christian, had unshaken faith in Jesus and was of the "Old time religion" sort. She was fervant in spirit serving the lord. We shall not forget her prayers which were always fervant and earnest. In her earlier years she took an active part in religious work. It was in the old log cabin, now the present home of her daughter, Mrs. LaDoux that the writer was converted in a meeting held by Rev. Gallop a local preacher of the Methodist Church about the year of 1867. She was at the meeting. In 1897 they sold the old homestead to their son, Lewis, and moved to the place where she passed away Dec. 14, 1914. For several years she and her grandson, Elihu Warner lived at the present home and the Eighty upon which Warner Chapel is situated. In the spring of 1905, she with her son, Lewis and Grandson, Elihu moved to Fort Collins, Colo. Two and one-half years later she moved back to Spirit Lake which has since been her home. The last time we saw her was when we bade her goodbye but we expect to meet her again where parting is no more. She is the mother of five children and is survived by her son, Lewis, who resides in Arkansas, William, Mrs Freed and Mrs LaDoux at Spirit Lake. Two sisters in the state of Washington and a brother in Pennsylvania are the only survivers of a family of twelve children. Just gone a few days before that's all. Soon we each must answer to the call. So let us keep our lamps trimmed and burning bright. And we shall surely meet in our home of Endless Light. --------------
