Description	:	NANCY ELEANOR SLAUTER CHANDLER Nancy Eleanor (Slauter) Chandler was born July 29, 1891, in Davis City, Decatur County, Iowa, the daughter of John Slauter and Charlotte Toney Slauter. She died January 25, 1980, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 28 days. Prior to her marriage Nancy taught school. Read More	NANCY ELEANOR SLAUTER CHANDLER Nancy Eleanor (Slauter) Chandler was born July 29, 1891, in Davis City, Decatur County, Iowa, the daughter of John Slauter and Charlotte Toney Slauter. She died January 25, 1980, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 28 days. Prior to her marriage Nancy taught school. On April 16, 1913, she was joined in marriage to Chester H. Chandler. To this union, four sons were born Harold Edwin of Seattle, Washington, Donald Dwight of Santa Anna, California, Willis Max of Los Angeles, California, and Ili Leroy of Kirksville, Missouri. Nancy was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, August 4, 1912. She taught church school, was a group leader for Bible Study, and held the office of Secretary for the Mites Society for several years. Nancy and Chester started their early life on a farm north of Lamoni, later moving to South Dakota. After eleven years they returned to Plattsmouth, Nebraska. In 1942 they moved to Bremerton, Washington to work in the Bremerton Shipyards for the duration of WWII. They returned to Lamoni in 1945 where Nancy spent the remainder of her years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Chester in 1974; her parents; sisters, Francis Richardson in 1932, Grace Lovell in 1973; grandson Mark in 1949; half brother Wayne Bennett in 1971. Surviving are her four sons, eleven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anna Wicker of Des Moines, and Hattie Penner of Santa Rosa, California; one brother Isaac Slauter of Lamoni, other relatives, and friends. We, her daughters by marriage, loved her. She was there to welcome each new grandchild. She shared our joys and our sorrows and her prayers throughout her life were for her children and her grandchildren. Our lives have been enriched by her presence. We now think of Mother of stepping on the shores and finding it Heaven. Of taking hold of a hand and finding it God's hand; Of breathing a new air and finding it celestial air; Of feeling invigorated and finding it immortality; Of passing from storm and tempest to an unknown calm; Of waking and finding you're home. Funeral services, under the direction of the Lamoni Funeral Home, were held Monday, January 28, 1980, at 11:00 a.m. from the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church. Officiating were Elders Willard Moon and LeRoy Trammell. Burial was in Rose Hill.
