Elizabeth Arterbein [Arterburn] was born December 25, 1832, near Lewisville [Louisville], Ky., and died March 23, 1915, at her home in Buckeye township, Hardin county, at the age of more than 82 years. At the age of fourteen years the deceased was converted and united with the Christian church. At the age of fifteen years she removed with her parents to Paris, Ill., where at the age of seventeen she was united in marriage with J. O. [D.] Underwood at Georgetown, Ill., on March 17, 1850, In 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Underwood moved with their children to Hardin county, of which she was since a resident. Mr. Underwood died April 5, 1900. To Mr. and Mrs. Underwood were born nine children, six sons and three daughters, all of whom surrvive to mourn the loss of a true and loving mother. These are Mrs. Mary A Hughes of Parsons, Kas.; W. T. Underwood of Plankinton, S. D.; A. M. Underwood of Georgetown, Ill.; J. M. Underwood of Sentinel Butte, N. D.; Mrs. Nancy J. Mason of Moline, Kas.; J. A. Underwood of Keister, Minn.: A. D. Underwood of Thompson, Ia.; Mrs. Emma V. Bingham of Braden, Neb.; A. R. Underwood of Alden. There are also thirty-five grand children and forty- one great grand children. The funeral was on Thursday of last week from the Alden M. E. church, of which the deceased had been a member for the past twenty-five years. Her pastor, the Rev. W. G. Muhleman, conducted the services.
