Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 25 Nov 1880 p3: "OBITUARY---Mrs. Nancy Davis, widow of the late William B. Davis, Esq., died at Foxcroft, on Thursday the 11th inst., aged 83 years [discrepancy] and 6 months. She was born in the Town of Hope, then in Hancock county, now Knox, in this State. When seven years old, she went with her widowed mother, to reside in what is now a part of Farmington, in Franklin County. There her mother married again; and the daughter grew to womanhood developing much energy and force of character. She early became interested in the subject of religion, was baptized, and united with the Free Will Baptist Church in Farmington, which connection was never dissolved, during her life. After her marriage with Mr. Davis she and her husband resided in Farmington till 1842, when the family removed to Foxcroft, and on which her husband, William B. Davis, a prominent and wealthy citizen, respected by all, died in 1857. The eldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Davis, the wife of Hon. Manly Eames, formerly of Dover, died many years since. Four daughters all of whom have been married, and two sons, reside in this County. Mrs. Davis always felt a profound interest in the education and welfare of her children, and had the great satisfaction of seeing them all reasonably prosperous, and esteemed members of the community. Mrs. Davis was always diligent and economical, and taught her children to be so; yet she forcibly inculcated, by precept and example, that 'a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.' In the long years which are to come, her healthfully moral influence upon her children and descendants will not be lost. She was intellectually strong. Age did not seem to impair her mental faculties, or weaken her sound judgment. Her sympathies were also strong, and always judiciously expressed. She made an impress upon the minds of those with whom she associated. Her bodily vigor was remarkable till within the last seven months. During the latter period she was feeble; but serious results were not apprehended until the 10th inst., when she was suddenly attacked with pains in the region of the heart, her illness proving fatal in a few hours. Funeral services were held on Saturday the 13th inst., at her late residence, and were conducted by Rev. S. C. Whitcomb of Dover, Free Baptist. All of her surviving children and many of her grandchildren participated in performing the last sad rites. The relatives will not alone mourn the loss of one whose example was so salutary, and whose counsel was so much valued."
