Some gravestones may have been lost. "I found these two articles about Maggie Driesbach Locklin going to her step-mother's funeral:" "Mrs. Chas. Locklin left Tuesday night for Waurika, Okla., to attend the funeral of her step-mother." -- Marion Record (Marion, Kansas), Thursday, August 29, 1918, p. 2" "Mrs. Chas. Locklin was called to Waurika, Okla., early last week on account of the death of her mother, Mrs. Driesbach. The funeral was held at Waurika on Thursday, but interment was made at LeRoy, Kansas, on Friday. Mrs. Locklin returned home on Saturday." -- Marion Record (Marion, Kansas), Thursday, September 5, 1918, p. 4" "There's something else I found when I was looking at Newspapers.com. Maggie Locklin also had a sister, Jennie Driesbach, who married a man named Ormsby Hite. . . She's mentioned in an article in the Marion Record on June 3, 1920, p. 1. I also found wedding announcements for Anna Driesbach's marriages to Harry Clifton and R. C. Edge." --------------------------- Nancy is recorded as age 8, born in Kentucky, in the 1850 census in Henry County, Illinois, with Carter & Lorana Key and 7 siblings, including 3 half-siblings named Fuqua. C. R. Key, 47, and L. Key, 50 resided in Avon, Coffey, Kansas in the 1865 state census. Nancy is recorded as age 21; George, 17; Lucinda, 15; Carter, 13; & Joanna, 11. "Nannie" J. Key married A. N. Driesbach on March 17, 1870. (Coffey County, Kansas marriage index) They are recorded together in the 1870 Neosho, Coffey, Kansas census with Maggie, age 7. It is probable that Maggie's mother (Margaret or Mary--nee Cross) is buried at or near LeRoy, Kansas. She is recorded in the 1860 Coffey County, Kansas Territory census, but not the 1865 state census. The 1880 census (same location) shows Alfred N. Driesbach, 47, and Nancy J., 34, with John S., 10; Anna, 5; Mamie, 4; & Philba, 1. The U. S. Social Security Applications and Claims Index also shows that Alfreda L. List was a daughter of Alfred N. Dreisbach and Nancy J. (nee Key) Driesbach. Both Nancy's father and also her husband served from Kansas for the Union during the Civil War. Nancy is listed in the 1910 census in Chickasaw Ward 1, Grady, Oklahoma, residing with her daughter, Anna Clifton. Anna later married Richard C. Edge and is buried in Oklahoma. Richard & Anna Edge resided in Denver, Colorado in the 1920 census with Anna's niece and nephew, Floyd Vance, 11, and Mary Vance, 8. Census reports show that Floyd and Mary Vance were children of Mamie (nee Driesbach) Vance, the second wife of George M. Vance, memorial # 106232750. Nancy's parents resided in Montague County, Texas, in the 1880 census, where her father died, according to family information. The second wife of Carter R. Key, Tennisee Key, (memorial #28929036) received a Civil War widow's pension in 1894, filed from Texas. Nancy received a Civil War widow's pension, also filed from Texas. Her age and inferred birth year vary in the censuses. The birth year entered above is based on the 1850 census. ------------------- Note: The death date and burial location of Mamie (nee Driesbach) Vance have not yet been found. She is recorded in the 1915 Kansas state census in Pottawatomie County. Nancy's daughter, "Jenny," Hite is recorded as "Febie J." Hite, 31, the wife of Ormsby Hite, in the 1910 census. The 1880 census in Coffey County, Kansas, records her as "Phiba," Driesbach, age 1. "Jenny" Hite is recorded as the widow of Ormsby Hite in a 1922 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, city directory. Also, there are some references in the census reports of Albert & Nancy's children that Albert was born in Germany, rather than Ohio.
