Description	:	Nancy Gulledge Rorie, age 76, of the Trinity Community in Union County, North Carolina, passed away on July 10, 2020, after a battle with COVID-19. She was born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, the daughter of Embree Gulledge and Sarah Funderburk Gulledge, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Emmett Gulledge and Merrill Gulledge, and daughter-in-law, Cydnee R. Rorie. Nancy is survived by her husband, David K. Read More	Nancy Gulledge Rorie, age 76, of the Trinity Community in Union County, North Carolina, passed away on July 10, 2020, after a battle with COVID-19. She was born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, the daughter of Embree Gulledge and Sarah Funderburk Gulledge, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Emmett Gulledge and Merrill Gulledge, and daughter-in-law, Cydnee R. Rorie. Nancy is survived by her husband, David K. Rorie; her son, Kelly Rorie; her daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa Rorie-Bland and Scott Bland; her beloved grandchildren, Forrest Rorie and wife Julia Rorie, and Sevanna Rorie; and her great-grandson, Cameron. She began her legal career with the office of James Griffin, attorney at law, and later served for many years until her retirement as a Superior Court Reporter for the State of North Carolina. Nancy’s life was animated by her passion for her faith, for her family, and for politics and public service. She was a long-time and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served in every leadership role, including assisting in worship. She took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandson, and she was an avid supporter of their activities, including cheering them on at countless sporting events. She was also a dedicated fan of the Davidson College Wildcats basketball team. Nancy served as the President of the Democratic Woman of North Carolina, Chair of the Union County Democratic Party, and President of the Union County Democratic Woman. She was a delegate to numerous state and district conventions, and served on the State Executive Committee of the North Carolina Democratic Party. She also served many years as precinct chair, and she organized countless local precincts over many election cycles in Union County. Nancy invested so much energy and time into her political work, out of a conviction that it would make her community, state and nation a better place for all. Nancy served many years as a citizen member of the North Carolina Board of Mortuary Science (now known as the North Carolina Board of Funeral Service.) Nancy also had great compassion for the homeless, and she was generous with the residents of the Union County Homeless Shelter in Monroe. In recognition of her many years of public service and contributions to the state and to her community, Nancy was awarded North Carolina’s highest honor, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2012, by Governor Beverly Eaves Perdue. Please join the Rorie Family to help us honor and celebrate the life of the wonderful Nancy Rorie. From 5:30- 7pm Wednesday evening 7/15, the Rorie Family will be outside the Rorie Home (224 Trinity Church Rd, Monroe, NC 28112) for you to ride by and pay your respects. The Rorie Family asks that you do not stop or get out of your vehicle due to Covid- 19. A service in celebration of Nancy’s life will be broadcast from Trinity United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM, on the Zoom internet platform: Join Zoom Meeting Meeting ID: 896 7656 0064 The family appreciates your participation through Zoom as the service at Trinity will be private for family only.
