She was the mother of Mrs. Isaac [A.] [Mary BARKMAN] KESSLER, Mrs. Ed. [A. Edgar] [Dora BARKMAN] SHOBE and Frank [BARKMAN], John [BARKMAN] and Martin L. BARKMAN, of this county, and Rev. L. T. BARKMAN, of Aurora, Illinois. The funeral occurs at Bethlehem church, Friday morning at 11 o'clock. [d. Feb 15, 1905, ae 74y-10m- 15d beside husband, John B. BARKMAN, d. Oct 21, 1890, ae 63y-7m-24d]. Published in the Rochester(IN) Sentinel, Monday, February 20, 1905 The funeral of Mrs. Nancy BARKMAN, conducted at Bethlehem church last week, was held under many difficulties. The snow had drifted the roads so badly the undertaker could not use his hearse and an ordinary bobsled was used. One son, John BARKMAN, lived eight miles away and it took him nearly a half day to get through the drifts and at three places he had to get permission of farmers to cut the fences to get through. Barkman, widow of John Barkman, passed to the higher life, at 10:00 o'clock Wednesday, from the home of her son, Frank Barkman, 6 1/3 miles northeast of Rochester. Mrs. Barkman was born April 11th, 1830, in Kentucky, making her 74 years, 10 months and 5 days of age. She was the mother of five children, three sons and two daughters, who survive her. The funeral will take place Friday morning, 11:00 o'clock at Bethlehem Baptist church. Rev. Bender of Akron officiating. Interment in Hamlett cemetery.
