From Nevada Evening Journal March 21, 1933 (page 1) Aged Pioneer Woman Died at Home Today Mrs. Nancy Bamberger, 86, widow of the late Ezra S. Bamberger, died at her home 806 Eighth street, this morning about 3:00, after a brief illness. While Mrs. Bamberger had of course been failing with her advancing years, she was up and about her duties in the home until Sunday, when she was taken ill and a physician was called. From the time of this attack she grew gradually weaker and it was soon realized that the end was approaching. In the death of Mrs. Bamberger, who would have been 86 years of age on April 4 next, Nevada loses one of its oldest and most beloved pioneer women and the Methodist Episcopal church one of its most faithful and consistent members. The late husband, pioneer hardware merchant of Nevada died at their home here April 14, 1925, after a wedded life that dated back from September 19, 1869. Mr. Bamberger leaves her two brothers Edward Talbott and John Talbott of Lamoille, her sister-in-law Mary Bamberger with whom she had shared her home the most of her married life, a niece Mrs. Inez Weaver of Stromsberg, Neb., who lived in the Bamberger home as a girl, a sister-in-law, Mrs. O. O. Talbott and a niece, Mrs. W. F. Thompson, both of Nevada and numerous other relatives and a wide circle of friends. One sister, Mrs. Hetty Wood of San Diego, Calif., had died about a year ago in California and the brother, O. O. Talbott died at his home where December 28, 1931. Nancy Talbott was born in the state of Missouri, April 4, 1847, a daughter of William S. and Martha Rose Talbott. She was one of six sons and five daughters who grew to manhood and womanhood. The parents with their large family of children came to Iowa in 1865, locating first in Nevada, where they made their home for a few months. They then moved to a farm on East Indian Creek, southeast of Nevada where they lived for a few years. From there they moved to Hardin county where the father occupied the pulpit in a local charge for about two years. From Hardin county the family home was shifted to Lamoille in Marshall county, where the hoe continued until the death of the parents and there the two surviving brothers of the deceased still have their home. During her long and useful life in Nevada Mrs. Nancy Bamberger was always one of the leaders in affairs connected with the religious and civic life of the city. Besides being active in the Methodist Episcopal church she had taken an active part in matters connected with charitable affairs and everything that went toward the betterment of home life of the city. She was one the very earliest members of the Nevada Womans club and had been elected a life member of the present organization. While giving some time to these outside activities, her greater and outstanding interest had been in her home and church and of later years her flower gardens which were among the most beautiful and most admired in the city. She was a woman of wonderfully fine characteristics and will be long remembered by her old time neighbors and friends. Mrs. Bamberger had been able to give her personal attention to her business affairs until the end came. The niece Mrs. Weaver, who had been called at the time Mrs. Bamberger was taken ill arrived in Nevada on the Northwestern at noon today. The aged sister-in-law Miss Mary Bamberger, whose age is 92 years, has been ill for some time during the brief illness of the deceased Mrs. Talbott and Mrs. Thompson has been in the home sharing the care of aged ladies. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, with her pastor Rev. Geo. A. Lawton in charge. There will be a prayer service at the home at 2:00 and the funeral at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 after which interment will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the husband who died eight years ago the coming month.
