(Special) -- Mrs. Nancy Joanna Bowen, for resident here, died early Tuesday a.m. after a two week illness at the home of her son in Albia. Heart trouble and the extreme heat were given as the cause of her death. ..Mrs. Bowen was born in Alabama, but spent most of her life in Cincinnati. She left only two years ago to make her home with her son Esau, and to help care for his children. ..Her husband and five children preceded her in death, her husband passing away Jan. 28, 1926. ..She leave seven children to mourn her passing, as follows: Esau of Albia, with whom she made her home; Paul of Des Moines; Jas. enroute to California; Aaron of Detroit, Mich, Mrs. Nellie Coons of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Rhoda Slavens of Cincinnati and Joseph, who address is unknown; also 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. ..Funeral services will be held at the Bent Funeral home, at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, conducted by Rev. E. L. McClure. ======================================== Centerville Iowegian and Citizen - 24 July 1936 ---------------------------------- ..Funeral services for Mrs. Joanna Bowen who died suddenly Tuesday morning, July 21, were held from the Bent Funeral home on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. E.L. McClure. The music was furnished by Mrs. F.C. Staley at the piano and Mrs. Eva Harrison, Mrs. Grace Kelley, Mrs. Daisly Kelley and Mrs. Joe Carr sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," "When I Get to the End of the Way" and "Sometime We'll Understand". Rev. McClure delivered a very comforting message to the bereaved. The services were well attended by a large gathering of relatives, friends and old neighbors to pay their last respects to a departed friend and relatives. Following the services the body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were: Mrs. Nellie Coons of Rockford, Paul Bowen and wife of Des Moines, Harold Coons and wife of Rockford, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Slaves of Newton, Ia., and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Drew of Brazil, Esau Bowen of Albia.
