Nancy resided at the place of her birth with the exception of 3 years the family resided in Barber Co. Kansas. She attended Coal Glen Rural School. On May 15, 1912 she was united in marriage to Chester Lewis assuming the duties of a helpmate to her husband who had the responsibility of both mother and father placed in his hands for ten years caring for his four sons and daughter after the death of the wife and mother Nancy McCarty Lewis in May 1902. They established their home on the farm in Wayne Co. Near Bethlehem, Iowa. The remainder of her life being spent in Lucas and Wayne counties. On March 7, 1939 on account of failing health they left the farm and moved to their home in Russell. Nancy with her husband united with the First Baptist church on New Years Day 1918. She was of a family of 8 children four sisters, Eunice, Nora, Maude and Lena; Three brothers Pearl and Earl, twins, and W. L. Kennady. Her parents, a sister Lena Adeline Davis, a brother Earl having preceded her in death. Also a step-son Clifford Lewis passed away on November 27, 1938. She leaves to mourn her death, her devoted husband and four children, Mrs. Flossie Davison, of Seymour, Iowa; Hollie Lewis, Cambria; Virgil and Leo Lewis of Russell, her sisters and brothers, Mrs. Eunice Selders, Van Orin, Ill., Mrs. Nora A, Lynn, Russell, Iowa, Maude E. Patterson, Alliance, Nebr., W. L. Kennady, Kansas City, Kans., Pearl L. Kennady, Chicago, Ill., 4 nieces 4 nephews, several grandchildren and numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Nancy was untiring in her duties in the home, was of a kindly disposition, always lending a helping hand to the sick and those in need. During her illness of a few months every ministration of love and kindness was awarded her and every hope and thought was that by changed surroundings her health and interest might be restored, but we can only say with the poet: "It may be in the better land, We'll read the meaning of our tears, And then sometime will understand, We'll know by clouds instead of sun, Were over many a cherished plan, Why song has ceased when scarce begun, Yes there up there we'll understand." Largely attended funeral services were held in the First Baptist church in Russell, at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28, and interment was made in the New York Cemetery. Pall bearers were Richard Malone, Charles West, Vogel Smith, Elbert Dixon, Harvey Swanson and Lambert Davis.
