A regular visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M., at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill, with a 7:30 P.M., Prayer Service. She is survived by her husband, Clark of O’Neill, 2 daughters, Jennifer DeWitt of O’Neill and Joanna Gellermann and her fiance’ Brad Long of Seattle, WA., 2 grandchildren,Brittany and Aaron, 1 sister, Virginia Flack and her husband, Gary, and 1 brother, David Dahl and his wife, Laura, Aunt Miriam Lindgren, as well as cousins, neices and nephews. Nancy Ruth "Nan" Dahl Gellermann was born December 20, 1939 in Minden, Nebraska to Sam and Ione (Freeland) Dahl. During her early years she lived in Dorschester, Nebraska and moved with her family to Lincoln. She graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1957 and received her BA in Elementary Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1961. Nan was a teacher/educator beginning her career in Kearney. She returned to Lincoln and taught in Lincoln Public Schools. With her husband, and daughters, Nan moved to Griswold, Iowa in 1977 teaching at Lewis Elementary and Elliot Elementary. She also was the learning disabilities teacher. During this time, Nan earned her MA in Special Education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In 1990 she moved to O'Neill and was Special Education Director until she retired. On April 13, 1963 she was united in marriage to Clarke R. Gellermann. During their marriage, they lived in Lincoln and Griswold until moving to O'Neill. Nan was a very generous, understanding person who was always ready to help people if she could. She had many hobbies and interests--music, handbell ringing, scrap booking, cooking and entertaining. Nan & Clarke enjoyed many of these things during their years together. Family, Friends, and education were important to her. Nan's life was one of great service to her students, her church, her friends and her family. She was a member of Willard Sorority, PEO, Christ Lutheran Church, NEA, NSEA, and an active member of a number of education organizations. Nan was a founding member and the driving force in creation of Christ Lutheran Church Preschool, LEAP, and as well as the bell choir. Nan lived by simple philosophy inherited from her mother, "She lived to collect friends, not materials" Nan leaves behind an impressive collection. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Ione Dahl,Father-in-law and mother-in-law, V.C. and Ruth Gellermann, her sister, Susie Dahl and nephew, Steven Flack.
