At the time of her departure from earth she was eighty three years, five months and 26 days old. She was born Thursday, September 30, 1841, in Rysum, Ostfriesland, Germany. She was baptized when only a few days old and was confirmed at the age of eighteen years. On Sunday April 30, 1865, she was married to Peter Wiltfang, and for several years they made their home in the old country. In 1867 they came to Pekin, Illinois and later moved to Delevan, then known as Delevan Prairie, Illinois. The family came to Talmage in 1878 and in the spring of 1883 they bought the farm three miles northwest of Cook, which was the Wiltfang home for many years. This farm is now owned by their son-in-law Charles Damme. In 1908 Mr. & Mrs. Wiltfang retired from farm life and went to Cook, and made their home in the house they purchased, where they made their home all these years until called away from the scenes of this life. Nine children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Wiltfang, of which two have passed on to a better land. The first born, a girl, Tetje, died in 1869, aged three years. John L. Wiltfang of Brunswick, their fourth oldest child, died Friday Oct. 16, 1914. Two and a half months preceding the death of John, the father Peter Wiltfang, his death occurring on Thursday, July 30, 1914. Mrs. Wiltfang was blessed with unusual good health all the long years of her life, and up to her last illiness had never been under the doctor's care. She was a good wife and mother. Think of all the thousands of loaves of bread she baked; the many, many torn garments she mended or the new ones she made, for no readymade suits or dresses were bought in those by gone days. Mothers made them at home. It was a pleasure to be guest at the Wiltfang home. One could not fail to feel the charm of true hospitality. Be it an extended visit that was made or only a short call when a dainty cup of tea or coffee was offered, the visit was always a pleasant one. For forty three years Mrs. Wiltfang was a member of the Ev. St. Pauls church here. She was a member of very good standing. When anything was being done for the church or synod, Mrs. Wiltfang always stood by nobly and did her part willingly. She will be greatly missed, not only by her family circle, but also by her friends. The funeral for the departed was held Saturday afternoon March 28, at the Ev. St. Pauls church. Rev. J. Abele pastor of the church was in charge of the funeral service. Mrs. Wiltfang herself had chosen the text for her funeral sermon. It was the same text that Rev. Abele selected for the funeral sermon of her husband, and is recorded in Luke 23:46 "Father into thy hands I commend my spirit." The songs sung by the congregation were the same songs that had been sung at Mr. Wiltfang,s funeral. Rev. T. phil Gabler of Talmage also preached a brief sermon. The text he chose for his sermon is recorded in Revelations 2:10, "Be though faithful until death and I will give thee eternal life." The church choir and quartette furnished several very fine selections. All that was mortal of a loving mother was laid to rest in the beautiful Ev. St. Pauls cemetery near the graves of her husband and son, John. The casket and grave were covered with an array of beautiful flowers. The funeral was largely attended. Those who mourn her death are her six sons and only daughter. The names according to age are: Henry, of Brunswick; Mrs. Elizabeth Damme, of Cook; Herman, of Mansfield S.D., Eike of Hill City, S.D., Leonard of Lone Pine, Calif., Theodore and Albert of Cook. She also leaves to mourn her death seven daughter's-in-law, twenty eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones.
