Description	:	Nannie M. Paulus, daughter of Wm. and Lucretia Wickham, pioneer settlers of Union County, was born December 7, 1873 northwest of Afton on the Wickham homestead. She departed this life August 29, 1949, at the home of her son, Leonard, where she was cared for during her last illness. Mrs. Paulus' mother died when she was less than one year old and she was cared for by an aunt, Mrs. Nan Barber, until she was about eight years old. Paulus, daughter of Wm. and Lucretia Wickham, pioneer settlers of Union County, was born December 7, 1873 northwest of Afton on the Wickham homestead. She departed this life August 29, 1949, at the home of her son, Leonard, where she was cared for during her last illness. Mrs. Paulus' mother died when she was less than one year old and she was cared for by an aunt, Mrs. Nan Barber, until she was about eight years old. After finishing her home school, she attended the Afton Business College, later teaching for several years in the rural schools of the county. She was a life long resident of this community, and was the last member of this pioneer family. She attended the Zoar Presbyterian Church, and was active in all its work, until it was disbanded. She was united in marriage to Casper Paulus, Feb. 19, 1896 at Afton, Iowa. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Leonard and Glen, both of Afton and six grandchildren. She always took a great interest in her family and her grandchildren as well as her neighbors and friends.
