Naomi Irene Lenard was born to John and Avis Laura (Rhone) Lenard on January 23, 1918 at Clark, South Dakota. Read More	Naomi Zimmerman, 93, of Ogallala and formerly of North Platte, died Friday, October 14, 2011 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala. Naomi Irene Lenard was born to John and Avis Laura (Rhone) Lenard on January 23, 1918 at Clark, South Dakota. As a youngster Naomi's family moved to northeast Nebraska where she attended elementary school at Districts 24 and 27 near Winnebago. Her first three years of high school she stayed with her grandparents (Abraham Lincoln and Mary (Chase) Rhone ) and attended high school at Wakefield, Nebr. Naomi attended her senior year of high school at Emerson and was a graduate of the 1936 class. .At Emerson she took the teachers course and was active in the school chorus. Following graduation, Naomi worked as a waitress at a cafe in Spalding. As time went on, she noticed a certain young man would eat meals on a regular basis at the cafe. He seemed to know which tables she would be waiting on and would strike-up a conversation with her. One evening when she was getting off work, he asked her if it would be alright if he walked her home. Naomi replied, "I think the sidewalk is wide enough for both of us." That young man was Walter Charles Zimmerman. Walter and Naomi were married on February 16, 1939 at Pierce, Nebraska. Walter was a Union Pacific Railroad foreman so they traveled a lot during his 48 year career with the railroad. . The young couple moved to North Platte, Nebraska where Walter worked as a mechanic for the Union Pacific Railroad and Naomi settled into her duties as a homemaker. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Naomi moved to Ogallala in 2006. She enjoyed life and very much enjoyed her cats. Naomi was preceded in death by her husband who died on November 28, 1989, her parents, step-father William P. Burcham, half brother Everett L. Burcham, Half sisters: Mary Etta Burcham and Florence E. Dupsky; step-brothers Howard F. Burcham, Harold L. Burcham, Sr., and step-sister Ruth Burcham. Among her survivors are cousins Dorothy and her husband Ray Navrkal of Jackson, Nebraska. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 18, at 1:30 p.m. in the Solarium at Indian Hills Manor. Rev. Chuck Rager of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Cremation will follow and inurnment will take place in the Grandview Cemetery in Spalding, Nebraska at a later date.
