Description	:	Naomi (Knox) Bates, 85, of Union, SC, passed away with her children by her side, Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Bates was born in Union on October 13, 1926, a daughter of the late Gettys Knox and Daisy Marie (Davis) Knox Williams. She was retired from Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and was a member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn (Bates) Watson and husband Hugh, and Wanda (Bates) Calhoun and husband Tommy of Union; two sons, George L. She was retired from Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and was a member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn (Bates) Watson and husband Hugh, and Wanda (Bates) Calhoun and husband Tommy of Union; two sons, George L. Bates, Jr. and wife Betty and Joseph Burton Bates, of Union; two sisters, Shirley Brannon and Brenda Shetley, of Union; a brother, Claudie Williams of Union; four grandchildren, Mandy Kitchen, Jeff Bates and Chip Calhoun, of Union, and Tiffany Berry of Cross Anchor; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial was at Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation was held from 12:30 until 2:00 PM prior to the service in the chapel. Memorials were made to Hospice Care of S.C., Union Unit, Union, SC. Published in Spartanburg Herald-Journal from November 21 to November 22, 2011
