She was born January 25, 1919, in Albia, Iowa, to Harry E. and Maude Ellen Burke McCrory. She married Charles N. Poncy June 1, 1942. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was a member and Past President of O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary for over 30 years, holding many offices and chairing many committees. She was also active for several years serving the 5th District of the American Legion Auxiliary in the capacity of chairperson of the Finance Committee for many years. She was a member and Past President of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347 Auxiliary, where she had also served as Secretary and Treasurer. She has been active in the Wapello County Democratic Party for over 50 years, serving as Vice President and Finance Officer. Surviving are a son, Dr. Paul (Sandy) Poncy of Centerville; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Poncy of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Tawna (Dr. Lenard) Kerr, Elizabeth Poncy, Scott Poncy and Dr. Brian (Kiaya) Poncy; five great-grandchildren, Susanne, Sabrina, Paige and Jarrod Kerr and Calif Poncy; a sister, Jane Briggs of Lockridge; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Tullis of Ottumwa and Marie McCrory of Laguna Hills, Clifornia. She is preceded in death by a son, Chuck Poncy; two brothers, Carl McCrory and Donald (Darlene) Wells. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Indian Hills Community College Foundation for the Chuck Poncy Memorial Scholarship or O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary.
