Born June 29, 1923 in Mount Sterling, she was the daughter of Arthur and Nora Belle Wallingford McCracken. She married James R. Carter Nov. 24, 1948. She later married William J. McHargue July 10, 1970 in Memphis, MO. She had lived in the Fairfield community for 25 years after moving from Keosauqua. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Rebekah Lodge No. 96, Ladies Encampment Auxiliary No. 6, and the Van Buren Genealogical Society. Surviving are her parents, Farmington; her husband; one son, John Carter, Hudson, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Tana Moser, Okinawa, Japan; Tammy John, Olathe, Kan.; one stepson, William J. McHargue II, Burlington; two sisters, Norreene Schmitt, Farmington, and Virginia Muntz, Fort Madison; three grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield. Services for Mrs. McHargue will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Van Buren Genealogical Society.
