He was a son of Elijah and Rachel (Blair) Perdew. His Blair family was from Cumberland Valley, Bedford County, PA and this may be where the confusion came from." Bronwyn also sent transcription of Nathan's father Elijah's will made 26 Feb 1838 found in the Bedford County [PA] Will Books, Vol. 3, p. 129 SOURCE: 8 Aug 2014 e-mail from Bronwyn Member #47880497 1850 cannot find Nathan. His obituary mentions he was one of the 49ers who went to California but he must have been missed on the census. On 12 Sep 1850 his 16 yr old sister Rachel Perdue is in Cumberland Valley Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania census in the household of her guardian John Blair age 63. OBITUARY: Nathan Perdue, one of the old and highly respected citizens of this county, died at his home in south Leon on Thursday, March 31, 1898. He was attacked with a stroke of paralysis just one week prior to his death. Mr. Perdue was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania in about 1850, where he was married to Miss. Mary Blair. They returned to Iowa, locating at West Point, Lee County. To them were born thirteen children, seven of whom, with the wife survive him. In 1857 they removed to Decatur County and have made this place their home since that time. He was thrice elected to the office of clerk of the courts in this county and his official, as well as private life has been above reproach. He was a man of kindly impulses, beloved by all who knew him. He became a member of the Methodist Church in 1840. The funeral was held from Loving Chapel Saturday afternoon, conducted by Reverend George Winterburne. SOURCE: Decatur County Journal [Iowa] Thursday April 7, 1898 edition OBITUARY: Mr Nathan Perdew died in Decatur Co, IA on March 31, aged 76 years, 4 months, and 6 days. The funeral was held in Leon IA. He was born in Bedford CO, PA on 25 Nov 1821 and he married Mary Blair in the fall of 1850 and moved to Lee Co in 1851, and on to Decatur Co in 1856. He was one of the 49ers who went to California. He is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters and some relatives still in Bedford Co.. He was a member of the ME Church since 1839. A brother was Archibald Perdew of Bedford CO who is the father of Prof George E Perdew. He was also a brother of the 2nd wife of the late J R M Hendrickson who lived east of the city.
