In 1972 he earned... Read More	THOMASTON – Nathan Clifford King, 80, passed away peacefully with family at his side, on April 22, 2014, in Augusta at the Maine Veterans’ Home. He was born on January 27, 1934, in Ellsworth, the youngest of five children to Robert Parsons and Eleanor Brewer King. In 1952 he graduated from Bar Harbor High School where he lettered in four sports: football, basketball, baseball and track. He entered Farmington State Teachers College in 1952 and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Education after having served two years in the United States Army 1954-1956). In 1972 he earned a Master of Education from the University of Maine. He married Mary Lee Johnston on November 2, 1957 and they moved to Thomaston in 1958 where he accepted his first teaching position at Thomaston High School. For more than 30 years he remained employed in the Thomaston school system, most of those years as the principal of the Thomaston Grammar School. He was the first boys varsity basketball coach at Georges Valley High School. As an educator, principal and coach, he had the opportunity to impact many students’ lives, and had a particular gift for connecting with students and encouraging them to get the most out of school. He umpired for many years as a member of the Knox-Lincoln-Waldo Umpires Association and also managed the Adult Education Program in MSAD # 50 for a number of years. He was well known for his sense of humor and good nature, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His interests included fishing, sports, harness racing and cribbage. Favorite locations were any fishing hole, particularly West Branch Pond, and trips to Colorado and Florida. He is predeceased by his wife of 34 years who passed away in 1992. He is survived by three sons: N. Michael and his wife Tamara of Thomaston; Steven and his wife Catherine of Colorado Springs, CO; and Timothy and his wife Elizabeth of Gorham; two daughters: Kristi Eiane and her husband Loren of Harpswell; and Karyn Deane and her husband David of Warren; and ten grandchildren: Andrew and Samuel King; Jeffrey, Jennifer and Stephanie King; Erik and Kelsi Eiane; and Whitney, Kyle and Brady King. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Stover and her husband Don of Winthrop, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Marion Roy of Rockland. A graveside service will be held at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, off Civic Center Drive, in Augusta. (Bangor Daily News 4/25/2014)
