Read More	To Honor The Memory of Mr. Nathan Mathis "Nate" Osborn Nate entered this life 09 September 1915, in Switzerland County, Indiana, the son of Chester E. and Elizabeth Mathis Osborn, both of whom proceeded him in death. He passed away from this life on Sunday 02 February 2003, at 3:54 am, at the Swiss Villa Living Center in Vevay, Indiana. Nate resided in Switzerland County all his life, and was well known for his good nature. He was inducted into the United States Army, on 31 December 1941, serving during World War II, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving Company C 126th Infantry. He participated in the battle and campaigns of Southern Philippines, Luzon, Papuan, East Indies, and New Guinea. He was wounded twice, once in New Guinea, on 04 December 1942, and again on 03 Feb. 1945. For his wounds, and heroism in was awarded a Purple Heart, and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was Honorably Discharged on 07 August 1945, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal with Clasp, and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, with Distinguished Unit Citation. He was first united in marriage to Mary Marie Stevens Wilson on 19 January 1946, and they enjoyed 26 years of marriage together until her death on 14 May 1972. He was then united in marriage to Ruth E Deckard Nail, on 25 August 1973, and they enjoyed 29 years of marriage together. Nate had worked for seventeen years at Schendley Distillery in Lawrenceburg. retiring in 1977. He and Ruth retired to their home on Main Street in Vevay in 1984. Nate and Ruth enjoyed working together in their beautiful flower gardens and Vegetable garden. Nate kept an immaculate yard and prided himself in growing large vegetables and flowers. Nate was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Vevay VFW post 5396. He also held membership in the American Legion post 185, and enjoyed his membership in the Switzerland County Community Church, where he enjoyed singing the old familiar hymns. Nate was a kind man, always with a smile on his face, he enjoyed his family, and was a devoted husband, stepfather, papaw and friend. Nate enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, to enjoy nature and its beautiful surroundings. Nate will be sadly missed by his heartbroken wife Ruth E. Osborn of Vevay, His loving stepdaughters: Inez K Love and Husband, Tom of Lawton, OK, Carol Horn and her husband, Randall of St. Peters, Missouri and Evelyn Rodman and her husband, Ted of Indianapolis, his loving step-son Billy Nail and his wife Pat of Vevay, Paul D. Nail and wife Kelly of Gisbonia, PA. Marvin Wilson Jr and wife Mona of Vevay, his brother in law that helped to raise, Ervin Wilson and wife Lynn of Madison, Erlin Wilson of Corydon and James Robert Stevens of Vevay, His brother Leon Osborn of Bennington, 22 step grandchildren, 27 step great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Nate was also proceeded in death by his brother Franklin Osborn on 20 Jan. 1990, his step son, William H. Wilson 26 Nov 1987. His step great grand daughters' Danielle Elizabeth Wilson Scudder on 24 Sept. 1992 and Sarah Beth Oliver 08 Nov. 1980. Funeral Service: Wednesday 05 February 2003 at 1:00pm at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, Interment in Vevay Cemetery, with Military Honors Conducted by Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396.
