Read More	Hamilton Man Killed North of City Saturday Nathan Lewis, aged 62, a native of Hamilton, was instantly killed on Saturday evening, when he was struck by a car driven by James Hoffman, 73, of Pleasant Lake. Lewis was walking north on U.S. 27, en route to the home of Roman Jewell, where he has been employed as a farm hand. He was walking on the right-hand side of the road, and was about one mile north of Angola when Hoffman struck him. Hoffman stated to officers that he was blinded by lights from an approaching car, and was unable to see Lewis. The accident was investigated by State Patrolmen Sam Patton and Russell Huffman, and by Sheriff Russ Hershey. Dr. L. L. Eberhart, Steuben County coroner, said Lewis' death resulted from a fractured skull. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Swift Funeral Home in Hamilton, with burial in the Teegardin cemetery. Rev. Paul Stephenson officiated. Mrs. Frank Watkins, a niece, is the only survivor. ANGOLA HERALD Friday, April 17, 1942 p. 4, col. 4. ------------------------------- Nathan Lewis, son of James and Susannah Teegardin Lewis, was born in Otsego Township, Steuben County, Indiana, on March 17, 1875, and was called away on April 11, 1942. He had reached the age of 67 years and 25 days. Mr. Lewis was one of a family of nine children. five girls and four boys. His father and mother preceded him in death by a number of years, and of the immediate family there remains but one sister, Mrs. Earl Wolfe, of Edon, Ohio; and three brothers, William, Amos, and Albert, all of Hamilton. Mr. Lewis lived the entire span of life in Otsego Township and surrounding territory, and had a very wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Perhaps his outstanding characteristic was his willingness to help those who needed his assistance in any way, for his friends tell of the many times that he helped them in troublesome situations. His was a friendly disposition, he was a stranger but once, and his constant cheerfulness was a strength to those with whom he came in contact. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure, a large group of nephews and nieces, other relatives, and a host of friends. After his mother died, he was boarding with his uncle, Eugene Teegardin; working as a farm laborer. He was an inmate at the Steuben County Infirmary by 1930, and was also counted there in the 1940 Census.
