Nathan Stephen Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Perry Wood, was born January 28, 1871 at Lawrence, Kansas, the fifth child in a family of 13 children. He spent his boyhood in Kansas and Nebraska, and except for a few years as a miner in Cripple Creek, he was a farmer all of his adult life. Mr. Wood was married to Lillie Helene Hohnbaum on February 10, 1904 at Waco, Nebraska, where Mrs. Wood was reared. Mr. and Mrs. Wood moved from Waco to Omaha and later to Loomis, Nebraska where they made their home for several years. In 1918 they came to Colorado and established their home on what is now the Carl Ferguson farm southwest of Holyoke in the Wages community. They later moved to a ranch in the Cement neighborhood about 20 miles southeast of Holyoke, living there for a number of years. About 20 years ago they moved to a farm three miles east and about four miles south of Holyoke. Mrs. Wood passed away on June 17, 1958. Since that time Mr. Wood had continued to reside at the home place with his daughter, Miss Carmen Wood. Mr. Wood enjoyed exceptionally good health throughout his life and had never entered a hospital as a patient until he was 85 years of age. He was never bedfast until he entered the hospital two weeks before his death. He enjoyed sports and reading and was always glad to entertain and visit with his friends. Surviving are his six sons, Lars P., Renton, Washington, Virgil, Wray, Marlin, Denver, Russell and Dale, Holyoke, and Corwin, Gulfport, Mississippi; three daughters, Miss Carmen Wood, Holyoke, Mrs. Norma McCormick, Englewood, and Mrs. Lila Allee, Broomfield; one sister, Mrs. George Westover, Sand Diego, California; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Two daughters preceded Mr. Wood in Death, Fern, at the age of 7 years, and Mrs. Hazel Peterman. Out of town people who were here for the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hohnbaum and Mrs. Etta Shaw, Denver; Mr. and Mrs. F.L. McCormick and children, Englewood; Mr. and Mrs. John Allee and sons, Broomfield; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wood, Wray; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Eberhart, Fort Collins, and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Downing, Vernon.
