Nathaniel Boynton, one of the oldest residents of this town passed away at his home at Woodstock Village, September 28. Mr. Boynton was born in Thornton, January 4, 1818, and was the son of Moses Boynton, one of the earliest settlers in Thornton, who moved his family on an ox sled from Weare into a wilderness where he afterwards cleared up a farm which during later years was one of the most prosperous farm homesteads in Thornton. Mr. Boynton in 1844 married Delia T. Clark of Thornton and to them were born five children. Twenty-eight years ago his wife died and two years ago he married Mrs. Emily Russell Lougee of Woodstock, and has resided in this town ever since. He is survived by a widow and four sons, viz, Charles H., a farmer in Gilford; Herbert C., the well-known clothier of Tilton; Edward L. of Lowell, Mass., and Moses A., a merchant in Wollaston, Mass. His only daughter, Grace, died in Lowell, several years ago. Mr. Boynton was a prosperous farmer and a man whose conservative ideas ranked high in the community and commanded respect of the entire valley. Funeral services were conducted at the last home Saturday, September 30, at 2 p.m., by the Rev. Mr. Lewis of the South church assisted by Rev. Mr. Perkins of the First Baptist Church of North Woodstock. Frank W. Sellingham conducted the arrangements and the bearers were Herbert C. and Edward L., sons of the deceased, and Albert W. and Merton H. Sawyer, nephews. The large concourse of people that gathered to do homage to one of Woodstock's oldest citizens and one that represented the sturdy yeomanary of earlier days for the last time upon the face of Nathaniel Boynton. As the form rested in the casket, the same character was manifested that was always noticeable in life, that pleasant look of contentment and joviality, seemingly at peace in death as in life. He married Mary O. Carr in 1883. He was a farmer residing in Gilford. •Herbert C. who was born August 11, 1851. He was a clothier in Tilton. •Lawriston Edward who was born March 15, 1853. He resided in Lowell, Mass. •Moses A. who was born February 15, 1856. He was a merchant, residing in Wollaston, Mass. •Grace Es who was born May 1, 1859 and died in Lowell, Mass., May 5, 1885. She married a Mr. Abel.
