Mr. Koth passed away July 3, 1979 at the Odessa Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Dinah Koth, at the Odessa home; one son, Frank Kith, Spokane; two sisters, Mrs. John (Amelia) Schorzman, Odessa; Rose Weber, Los Angeles, CA; 3 grandchildren, Judy, Nancy and David Koth, Spokane; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Clarke Schlimmer, Loren Schlimmer, Bill Schlimmer, Lee Schorzman, Eugene Schorzman and Art Schorzman. Nathaniel Koth was born Sept 3, 1886 into a family of ten children in Parkston, SD. His parents, Gottlieb and Katherine Koth, farmed in that area 24 years and then for approximately three years operated a hardware store in Parkston, before moving to Odessa with the family in 1904. Soon after, they purchased a hardware and machinery business from the Weber brothers. The entire family worked in the store which was called ‘Koth & Son'. Around 1912 this business was traded for farm land owned by Joe Kriegler. Nathaniel then went to work for Odessa Mercantile Co. This business burned down in 1913. Then Nathaniel, with his brother Ed, went into business with Julius and Henry Michaelsen. It was known as ‘Michaelsen & Koth'. This business continued until all partners sold out and retired in 1945. Altogether, Nathaniel was in business approximately 40 years in Odessa. Nathaniel Koth married Dinah Schorzman on June 28, 1912. To this union one son was born, Franklin Koth. Nathaniel became a Christian in 1907 and joined the Baptist church where he remained a faithful member those 72 years. Interment was in the Odessa Cemetery with Strate Funeral Home of Davenport in charge of arrangements." (Odessa Record: 7-12-1979)
