(Jack) Lambert, 77, retired government meat inspector, died suddenly at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday while pushing a lawn mower in the yard at his home, 414 North Ash street. City firemen worked for 45 minutes with a resuscitator in an attempt to revive him before a doctor pronounced him dead from a heart attack. The new mower had just arrived at the Lambert home and he was pushing it back to the garage to put it away when he dropped. The son of the Rev. James and Susan Lambert, he was born April 4, 1872, in Randolph county, Va. He came to Iowa when 12 years old and began working at John Morrell & Co. here in 1905. In 1911 he became a meat inspector, retiring in 1936. He did work one year, however, during the war. He married Lovina Pumphrey October 29, 1902, at Agency. He was an active member of the Wesley Methodist church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Paul Lambert, Rockford, Ill., and Max Lambert, Ottumwa; a brother, F.W. Lambert, Ft. Pierre, S.D., and a sister, Mrs. R.V. Yant, Culver City, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Carroll Reece funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Levi Goodwin, D.D. of the Wesley church. Burial will be in Agency cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be: W.F. Fishchbeck, William Porter, Allen Weir, William Anderson, George Fletcher and Ira Glover. Active pallbearers will be meat inspector at the Morrell plant.
