Description	:	Nathaniel and his family helped slaves escape via the Ripley station of the Underground Railroad. As carpenters his family made coffins with the excuse of selling them down the Ohio River. This ruse was a means to help slaves float down river to the next station where other volunteers would help. As many as 2000 slaves may have passed through Ripey, Ohio in their quest for freedom in Canada. Nathaniel, Sr. parents are said to be Eli & Hannah Collins Nathaniel was married twice: 1st to Hannah Adkins (Iabout 1800) in Baltimore, Maryland He had 2 children with her which were raised by Nancy after Hannah Adkins died. 2nd: Nancy Wilson Nathaniel and Nancy married 16 Sept. 1807 in Manchester, Adams County, Ohio. The home of Nathaniel and Nancy on the Ohio River still exists in 2014. A descendant visited while doing her research and spoke with the current owners of the house. Nathaniel Collins had been christened 14 Aug. 1776 by Nancy's father, Rev. Matthew Wilson in Georgetown, Delaware. Father of Nathaniel B.
