Description | : | Nathaniel and his family helped slaves escape via the Ripley station of the Underground Railroad. As carpenters his family made coffins with the excuse of selling them down the Ohio River. This ruse was a means to help slaves float down river to the next station where other volunteers would help. As many as 2000 slaves may have passed through Ripey, Ohio in their quest for freedom in Canada.
