Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Central City. The Rev. Joy Savage will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cem. Mr. Hensley was born Oct. 8, 1916, at Central City to Joseph E. and Jessie C. (Breckon) Hensley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma M. Hensley, on Dec. 13, 1984. Survivors of the immediate family include three brothers and a sister-in-law, Paul R. Hensley of Iowa City, Iowa, Richard Hensley of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Gerald and Marian Hensley of Wood River; a sister, Mary Doty of Brooklyn, Iowa; He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Irma Aycock of Central City; and many nieces and nephews. He grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1936. Neal spent his entire life in Central City except for his service in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. The military sent him to Australia to be trained as a photographer and was a photographic laboratory technician with the Army while serving in the East Indies, Papua and New Guinea. When Neal returned to Central City, he opened his own photography studio, Hensley Studio, which he owned and operated until September 2001. In addition to the studio, Neal also had a blade-sharpening business. On April 25, 1953, Neal G. Hensley and Thelma M. Stark were united in marriage in Central City. Neal was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City for more than 50 years and was a faithful usher at the church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 6 in Central City. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Murel, Wendell and Russell Hensley, and a sister, Amy Smith.
