Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St., Mount Pleasant. Reverend Herbert G. Shafer, senior pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Neale Emery Longstreth was born on February 15, 1927, in Cranston, the son of Fred Harrison and Velma Leona Townsley Longstreth. He moved with his family to Muscatine at a young age and graduated from Muscatine High School in 1944. He married Betty Jean Lamp on September 4, 1948, at the Sacred Hearth Cathedral in Davenport. She died March 25, 1951. He married Mary Ellen Law Miller on November 1, 1952, in Muscatine. She died on February 16, 2000, in Mount Pleasant. During his high school years, he assisted his uncle on his farm. He was a farm hand for several years on farms in the Letts and Mount Pleasant areas. For 20 years, he was employed by the Henry County Road Maintenance Department, both on road maintenance and the county quarry. He retired in June of 1992. Following his retirement, he installed lifeline alert systems for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler and inducted into the Mount Pleasant Bowling Association Hall of Fame. While raising his children, he served as a Little League coach and a 4-H leader. He enjoyed western movies and books, contributing to charities and teasing his friends and family. He was a long and avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially the basketball team. Those thankful for sharing in his life include a daughter; Penny Burns and husband, Gary, of Mount Pleasant; a son, Mike Miller and wife, Leslie, of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Mercer of Portage, Indiana; six grandchildren, Mark Burns, Debbie Smith, Jesse Miller, Jason Miller, Jake Anderson and Cindy Keller; nine great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kirsten and Kenna Smith, Cole and Cayla Burns, Jacob, Nathan and Paige Miller and Andrew Hargrave. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and a son, Keith Miller.
