The early pioneers of this part of Jones county knew Mr. Parsons well, the late Ambrose and Silas Parsons being his brothers. A sister, Mrs. Dr. Harding, died three years ago at the age of about 91 and was buried in Wilcox cemetery. The account below states that Mr. Parsons located in Linn oounty in 1833. This is a mistake. He resided west of Fairview in this township, for many years, his place being east of the R. M. Poet farm. Mr. Parsons later removed to Linn county, we think in the vicinity of Prairieburg, and then to Hot Springs. The Star says: After an illness of several months Neely Parsons was relieved of his suffering last Tuesday. Up to the time of his last illness he was an exceptionally vigorous man for his age, both mentally and physically. Neely Parsons was born in Monroe county, Ind., June 3, 1821, and died May 10, 1905, aged 83 years, 11 months and 13 days. He removed to Linn county, Iowa, in 1838, and was married on March 5, 1848, at the age of 20 years, to Miss Mary Hazelrigg of the same county. To tins union eight children were born Marvin and Truman, of Hot Springs. Henry S. and Mrs. Sarah Clark, of fremont, Neb., and Mrs. Josie Ary, of Castana, Iowa, who still survive him and mourn the loss of a beloved and respected father, bowing to the will of Him who doeth all things best. January 9,1878, his wife died, and in 1880 h e was married to Mrs. Ella Noble, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, whom he has survived 10 years. He removed from Iowa to this place in 1892 and has since made his home with his sons, Truman and Marvin, a beloved father and respected citizen. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday from the Baptist church by Rev. Smock and the remains laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. The community extends sympathy to the bereft ones.
