Nielson, was born June 30 1883, at Big Springs, Nebraska and departed his life at his home in Lewellen, Nebraska, Tuesday, May 19, 1964 at 5:45 a.m. at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 19 days. On March 15, 1915, he was united in marriage to Glyde Polley. To this union 10 children were born: One son passed away in infancy and another son, Glenn, was killed while serving his country in Germany during World War II. The first 40 years of his life was spent in the Big Springs and Brule communities where he received his schooling and later was engaged in farming. In the spring of 1934 he moved with his family to a ranch north of Lewellen. Five years ago he and his wife retired and moved into Lewellen where they have since resided. Mike, as he was known to his many good friends and neighbors, was an ardent sportsman throughout his lifetime. The past few years due to declining health his activities had been restricted to fishing, which was one of his greatest loves and one that consumed many hours of his time. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his passing, one son, Aurelius of Banks, Oregon, and seven daughters, Inez Haines of Portland, Oregon; Irene Harmonson, Ogallala; Ilene Wolford, Lewellen; Iona Blanchard, Redondo Beach, California; Rosetta Zorn, Sedgwick, Colorado; Gladys Benzing, McCook; Esther Norwood; Redondo Beach, California; four brothers; six sisters; 23 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, May 22, at the Methodist church in Lewellen with the Rev. Philip LaBue officiating. "The Old R Cross" and 'In the Garden" was sung by Mrs. Henry Smith and Mrs. J. L. Kats accompanied by Mrs. Harold Burdick. Honory palllbearers were Ad Patrick, Jim Bairn, Jimmy Lewis, Rudy Mastrude, Wes Orr, Bill Connors, Nancy Mardis and Charlie Richter. Active pallbearers were Charlie Powers, J. L. Kats, Thad Patrick, Walter Seeley, Burl Newkirk and Godfrey Pierce. Interment was in the Ash Hollow cemetery with Holechek Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
