Deb Landoll played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles Wings”. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion SMNR Post 163. Whitey was born October 10, 1922 at Oketo, KS, to Nathan and Lessie (Devault) Olmsted. She attended school in Oketo and graduated from Marysville High School in 1940. She entered nurses training and graduated with her RN in 1944. Following graduation, she entered the Navy Nurses’ Corps as an Ensign. She served at Long Beach Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA, and later at the naval hospital in Sun Valley, ID. She terminated her service with the Navy Nurses’ Corps at Mare Island Naval Hospital and was honorably discharged in 1947 as a Lieutenant. Upon returning home she worked at the Randall Hospital and started with the new hospital in 1958. She trained with Kimble Anesthesiology Group in Kansas City to become an anesthetist. She retired from nursing in 1983. In 1980, she acquired her real estate license and started with Northeast Realty in 1991. On December 11, 1946, she married Howard Goins. To this union two children were born, Thomas and Pamela. Whitey was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and MCC. She enjoyed golfing, reading, playing bridge, painting, traveling and working crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard in 2005; son, Thomas in 1970; brothers, Wayne Olmsted and Billie Olmsted; and sister, Donna Goins. Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (J.R.) Layton, Osage Beach, MO, sister, Elma Marquardt, Ankeny, IA; three granddaughters, Kim (John) DiMarzio, Christine (Ray) Marschman, and Tammi Stotts; seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Meadowlark Hospice or American Legion.
